Fantastic Four Omnibus

This collection combines both of Matt Fraction's runs on Fantastic Four & Future Foundation.  This is a disjointed run compared to the previous one by Jonathan Hickman.  I for one loved Matt Fraction's run on Invincible Iron Man but this was a let down until I got to the dozen or so issues where the two teams were taking on Doctor Doom.  I was really gung-ho for this series when it was first announced that Matt Fraction would be taking over the two titles; Fantastic Four is by far the stronger title.  For some reason Future Foundation just didn't have that hook that made me want to read those issues.  The Fantastic Four title sees the Richards family along with Johnny Storm & Ben Grim traveling across time 7 space while their powers deteriorate.  While the Future Foundation series sees Scott Lang, Medusa,  Jennifer Walters & Darla Deering become the new Fantastic Four for what is supposed to be four minutes of time.  However in true Marvel fashion something goes wrong & they essentially are the Fantastic Four on earth for about one years time.  I found the connection between the to books to be a little jarring partly due to the art.  I am not saying that the art is bad mind both artist are fantastic (pun intened) but they don't complement each other well.  I am really looking forward to James Robinson's run which follows this one.  I like many of the concepts that where used in this run such as the time travel & I would really like to see a new Fantastic Four series take on Marvel's first family as they travel across time & space post Secret Wars.

Sex Criminals Vol. 1

This book was just plain weird I don't even know what else to say.  The beginning is really kind of straight forward as to how Suzie discovers her superpower.  By the end of this first volume not only does she find that she is not alone in the world.  The highlight of the book is seeing how the two main characters play off of each other even to the point of robbing a bank.  This first volume has a slow build providing lots of back story for each of its characters & how they found out about this new found power.  But it doesn't seem like there are any other powers other than stopping time.  This is the first Image comic in awhile that hasn't made me want to immediately pick up the following volume.

Hawkeye Vol. 2: Little Hits

The second volume of Hawkeye doesn't disapoint.  The art does more in this volume to sell the stories than the previous volume proving how essential have a great artist is to the comics medium.  There are three main stories woven together in this volume.  However I feel that the final issue which is the awesome Pizza Dog issue is a bit confusing so I didn't find the closure of the final story arc in this volume as I expected to.  Don't get me wrong the Pizza Dog issue is a masterpiece of graphic storytelling that is so refreshing & original that it makes me so proud to see attention given to artistic story telling of this caliber.  Another favorite issue for me in this collection is the Valentines Day issue which focuses on all of the girls in Clint's life & how he has fracked up his life so much over the years.  It seems that Clint Barton is now the new poster boy for hopeless loser of the Marvel Universe. 

Hawkeye Vol. 1: My Life as a Weapon

This first volume was awesome, the simplistic art reminds me of 100 Bullets.  Clint Barton is such an great character.  Flawed in almost every way & Murphy’s Law being the overall connecting element of this new series you just want to read it to find out how he’s going to get out of his newest problem.  If your not digging the art Matt Fraction’s writing is in top form for this series.
